Working with Community groups

The Soundroom has maintained its work with community groups. The ‘Drop in Music Café’ continues to be very popular attracting organizations with people with learning difficulties from all over the north east. The project has supported the ‘Over the Edge’ group for people who have had mental health difficulties who have now set themselves up as an independent group. Two similar projects who attend are  ‘Clubhouse’ and ‘Headroom’. We continue to be used by many organisations who bring their own youth groups here such as Pathways from North Tyneside and other groups from Newcastle. The Soundroom was again a venue on Heritage Open Day, hosting a variety of people who remember the building as a library and the surrounding areas. We are looking at the possibility of getting funding to develop this as some intergenerational work in the future.

Events

As ever, the project has organized or participated in a number of events. These include: Bill Quay Farm open day on Spring Bank Holiday weekend and the annual Chickenstock Festival, young bands again played at a Youth Events at Blaydon, Saltwell Park and Rowlands Gill. We provided sound systems for Lobley Hill Festival, Duke of Edinburgh award night while The Soundroom Community Band played at the Adult Learning Awards Ceremony and at various other events during the year.
