Working with Young People
The Soundroom works with aspiring young bands and musicians by providing weekly sessions supporting their development and giving them opportunities to play and learn. As well as these sessions, we also had a summer programme
In which young people had were able to spend more time practising and participate in recording sessions. Recently, a series of additionally funded friday and saturday sessions attracted in two new groups of young people who are likely to become regular users.
The young people who come to the Soundroom made a successful application to the Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) which enabled us to fund an band night at the prestigious Sage music venue. This featured seven young bands: Eastside Scandals, Make a move, Insert, Warning, Defaults, Stigmartyr and NE1. The event attracted 350 people and was sold out. Suffice to say it was a great success and we hope to have a video coming out soon. The YOF also allowed us to buy some badly needed new rehearsal equipment as requested by the young people.
Other young people involved with the project are the bands: Fades, Impulse 11, Powered Down, Aim for the head, young women’s band, Blind Radio, Lost Corz, The Sound, Evolution, Munters, Sledge and the Kentucky Cow Tippers. There have been many DJ groups who record their own sessions on to CD.
