The Soundroom Community Music Project is a collection of spacious flexible spaces, rehearsal rooms and a well equipped recording studio.

The Soundroom has been operating from its current location at the old Redheugh library (at the end of the bridge) in Gateshead for 20 years and prides itself on enriching people’s lives through engagement in music and arts activities.

Rehearsal Rooms

The Soundroom has 5 rehearsal rooms, each with a PA and drum kit. They are of varying sizes and can accommodate from 3-piece to 10-piece bands or larger music groups depending on the room.

The Round Room can take up to 10 musicians or a small choir or upto 20 Due to its curved shape, it provides a warm atmospheric environment to get creative. It features quality well maintained backline, 5 piece Mapex drumkit (cymbals available) The P.A. can take upto 8 Mics as standard

The Centre Room has a stage, overhead DMX stage lighting and audience space. And, although it functions day to day as a rehearsal room, it also functions as a venue for live performances or to rehearse a live show. It has a mirrored wall facing the stage- ideal to facilitate ‘getting your show looking right’. The stage can can accommodate up to 10 musicians and is equipped with quality well maintained backline and a 5 piece Mapex drumkit (cymbals available) The room itself can accommodate larger drum groups and choirs (up to 20) To book the room for rehearsing use the button below but if you wish to book it as a venue then please call the Soundroom on 0191 477 1116.

The Studio can hold up to 8 musicians and is equippedwith quality well maintained backline and a 5 piece Yamaha drumkit (cymbals available) and Roland V drums. To book the room for rehearsing use the button below

The Red Room is a small room that can comfortably fit a 3-piece band. It has an intimate feel and although it has a PA and drum kit, it is most suitable for acoustic sessions as well as a drum practice room.

The Green Room can hold up to 4 musicians. It also has a seating area which makes it a perfect space for composing songs and writing lyrics.

All rooms can be booked using the button below. The Round Room, The Centre Room and The Studio are £12.50 per hour whilst the smaller two rooms are £11 per hour. There are special rates for bookings before 4pm. Cancellations must be at least 48 hours before unless your booking is for a Monday when cancellation must be on at least the Friday before.

 And remember, as we’re a charity every penny you spend with us goes back into funding our community projects for more future musicians to enjoy, as well as towards the upkeep of our unique 1930’s library building.
